Calculate in one minute what an unfilled position costs your company per day—and the value of faster hiring. Free, no registration, with a transparent formula.
An open position costs the contribution value it would provide every working day: With a €60,000 gross annual salary and an assumed value creation factor of 2, that's around €545 per working day. Use the free ROI calculator to estimate these vacancy costs for your own position—and see the value of a shorter hiring period.
Status:
Current vacancy cost: €29,589. Potential savings: €9,863.
Vacancy cost per working day and position
€545
Lost value contribution while the position remains unfilled.
Possible savings from shorter filling duration
€9,863
Filled 30 calendar days earlier, all positions combined
Estimate based on your assumptions, not a guarantee. The calculation runs only in your browser – your inputs are not transmitted or stored.
The calculator uses five simple steps. The example uses the preset: € 60,000 annual salary, one position, factor of 2, 220 working days, and 90 instead of 60 days filling duration.
Annual salary × value creation factor ÷ working days per year
In the example: € 60,000 × 2 ÷ 220 = € 545 per working day and position.
Filling duration in calendar days × working days ÷ 365
You indicate the filling duration in calendar days; calculation uses only the days that would be worked. In the example: 90 calendar days correspond to about 54.2 working days.
Value contribution per working day × open working days × number of positions
In the example: € 29,589 at 90 days and € 19,726 at 60 days.
Costs for current duration − costs for shorter duration
For example: € 9,863 for a 30-day shorter occupation.
Savings ÷ recruiting costs (fee × number of positions)
Only if you specify recruiting costs. We also show the savings minus these costs.
Vacancy costs don't appear on any invoice – hence they are often underestimated. According to the DGFP study 2025, over half of the surveyed companies consider the costs of unfilled positions important, but less than ten percent measure them. At the same time, Stepstone Austria reports that 61% of surveyed HR managers say filling positions is taking noticeably longer due to the skills shortage.
Each unfilled position contributes nothing – tasks are completed later, clients wait, revenue is delayed or lost.
Tasks don't disappear. Colleagues cover, overtime increases, and with the workload grows the risk of further resignations.
The longer a selection process lasts, the more likely good candidates accept parallel offers – and the search starts over.
List your position or talk to us about the search. After a brief briefing, we'll give you an honest assessment of the market and realistic occupation duration.
What the ROI calculator entails and how to interpret the values.
The Cost of Vacancy is the contribution value that a company misses out on while a position remains unfilled. Simply put: annual salary times value creation factor, divided by working days, results in the cost per open workday.
There is no universally valid value. Positions directly linked to revenue, such as in sales or key roles, often contribute significantly more than their salary, whereas supportive functions are less directly measurable. A reference point is the revenue per employee divided by the average salary. The example value of 2 is an assumption.
Because a position contributes only on working days. You provide the hiring period in calendar days—as experienced in daily life—and the calculator converts it proportionately to working days.
No. The shorter hiring duration is your own assumption. The realistic time to hire depends on the role, market, and your selection process. We provide an estimate for your specific position after the briefing.
No. The calculation runs exclusively in your browser. Your numbers are neither transmitted to us nor stored.
The calculator deliberately does not deduct them and shows a gross view of the lost contribution value. If you want to calculate net, choose a lower value creation factor that already considers the saved salary.
